The piece is filled with dynamic lines and overlapping colors, creating a chaotic yet structured visual experience.
The dense network of lines crisscrosses the canvas, forming grids and barriers that suggest containment and restriction. The title Boundariesinvites us to consider these forms as symbols of the invisible walls that surround and limit us in daily life, whether they are personal, social or psychological.
At the center of the work, vague and partially obscured shapes appear to struggle against the mesh of lines, as though attempting to break free. These shapes, rendered in greens, oranges and earthy tones, suggest elements of life and growth attempting to emerge from within the constraints. The combination of bold, sweeping strokes and finer, delicate lines gives the impression of an ongoing conflict between freedom and confinement, between movement and stasis.
The application of white and gray across the canvas acts as a veil or mist, further concealing the forms beneath and adding to the sense of entrapment. This layered effect, achieved with ink and marker, evokes the feeling of being ensnared in a dense web, as if the viewer is looking at a moment of struggle or tension frozen in time. The overlaying of colors and lines also hints at the complexity of boundaries—how they are rarely simple or straightforward, but are instead a mixture of forces that push and pull, hide and reveal.
In Boundaries, abstraction is used to raise questions about the nature of limits. Are they protective barriers or stifling constraints? Do they keep us safe, or do they hinder our growth? The work encourages the viewer to reflect on the boundaries in their own life, those that are necessary and those that might need to be challenged.
