I
n art, the most powerful moments often emerge in silence. It’s through subtlety and restraint that emotions can breathe, allowing viewers to engage deeply with the work. This philosophy is central to my creative process, especially in projects where performance, visual art, and music interact to tell a story.
One of my recent works, Still Humans, explored the interplay between sculptures, paintings, performance and photography. The restrained gestures in the performance, paired with evocative images, martworks and an original composition by Chara Palaiologou, created a complex, layered experience. The project bridged the gap between the artworks and its visual interpretation, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface and uncover meaning within the space between each element.
Building on this approach, my next installation seeks to merge multiple layers of expression, creating a profound commentary on both environmental crises and the power of art to spark change. This new work will weave together performance, music, and visual storytelling, with an emphasis on the interconnectedness of all these elements in conveying a multifaceted message. While it focuses on the pressing issue of environmental destruction, particularly the effects of plastic pollution, it aims to do so in a way that is thought-provoking and layered, rather than simply confronting the viewer with shocking imagery.
The installation will include a short film that tells a compelling visual story, depicting how plastic and environmental degradation permeate our world—through the oceans, air, and even the food we consume. The symbolism will be strong, and the emotional impact heightened by the music. This powerful score will carry a raw urgency, bringing together the visual elements with an emotional weight that resonates deeply with the viewer.
However, this work is not just about confronting a single issue.
It’s about how the combination of art, performance, and music can create a more profound narrative that invites the audience to reflect on their role in shaping the future. The work will explore how these different art forms, when woven together, can give voice to environmental crises, while also touching on broader themes of human responsibility, resilience, and the power of expression.
The installation will not only aim to raise awareness about plastic pollution, but also engage the audience in a deeper, layered conversation about the environment and our collective responsibility to change. The multi-layered approach of integrating art, music, and performance intends to leave viewers with more than just a message—it will create an experience that challenges, provokes, and ultimately inspires action.
Through this artwork, I continue my exploration of how art can transcend its individual forms to create a dialogue that is both personal and universal, reflecting our shared human experience and the urgent need to protect the world we inhabit.
Unfortunately, I can’t show you the work yet as I am still in the process of creating it.
However, I can say that it will be shocking and aim to provoke a strong emotional response.
A glimpse of the short film through screenshots is possible, though it only offers a small preview of the full impact the work will have. It will give you a sense of the visual tone and atmosphere, but the true essence of the project can only be experienced in its entirety.
So, stay tuned for more.
